When he came to America in 1895, the people at the customs office gave him the name of Nicholas David. He first resided in Fort Wayne, IN, and traveled as a salesman or "pack peddler" for a while.

Nick married Takla (Mary) in Sioux City on April 22, 1902. He is the brother of Louis David, who married Takla's sister; therefore, two brothers married two sisters---Khizaron and Takla.

He and Takla farmed in Nebraska before moving to Sioux City in l908. Nick had three brothers who followed him to America, and all lived in Sioux City at some time---Abdo (Abe), Louis, and John. A sister, Selma David, remained in the old country. He and his brother John set up a store called the David Brothers, and they sold grain, hay, feed, flour, and coal. In 1919, he worked for the railways and later worked at a packing plant.

Nick and Mary had 12 children, born in Nebraska and Sioux City.
